The Senior Slump - Random Post #2

It's 9am on a rainy Tuesday, and you're in your last semester of college. You have two options, walk 30 minutes through the rain to sit through two hours of lectures, or stay in your warm, cozy bed and get some much needed sleep. At the beginning of your time in college, you would most likely choose to brave the rain. What makes your decision change as your 4-years pass? People call this by many names, but my personal favorite is:

The Senior Slump

As a first semester senior, I guess I haven't fully experienced the wrath of the Senior Slump. While I'm excited for the next few months, I am fully dreading the feeling that comes along with it. I experienced the senior slump in high school, but I also knew that I had college ahead of me. This made me want to work hard. After college, I am (hopefully) going to find a full time job and start my real, adult life. This means I'm not preparing for anymore school. Given what I know about this slump, I'm worried that my lack of academic progress after university will make it worse.

Here's what I know:

  1. time with friends is winding down, why spend any moment away from them?
  2. after 4 years of homework and exams, it's hard to focus on the tasks at hand
  3. most people are stressed out over jobs, or they already have one and don't care
  4. it's harder to keep track of everything going on in your academic life
  5. other activities are more enticing than sitting through your 100th power point lecture

I know, all of these sound like excuses. I promise, this is not an explanation for why I'm writing my blog post a week late (but maybe a little bit). I do think this is a real phenomenon that happens to a lot of students in the late stages of their academic careers. As I go through my senior semester, I really want to be mindful of this and still try hard in my school life. I want to find ways to balance college classes, friends, and life. Because of this, I am going to keep track of when I feel like when I'm unmotivated. If you have any tips for the senior slump, they would be greatly appreciated!

  1. This was a really relatable, enjoyable read-- I appreciate the honesty and the personality in your writing style. I agree, it is such a stressful, confusing time, as we're balancing the life a student with schoolwork and fleeting college memories with friends, while also being expected to act like an adult and find a job. My advice would be to find something that gets you excited and drives your ambition and motivation to complete the remaining of your college-work and help you thrive post-grad!

  2. Your take on the Senior Slump is so relatable! It’s like you’re putting into words what every senior feels but rarely says! I love how you’re already planning to balance everything, especially keeping track of unmotivated moments. Honestly, rainy Tuesday lectures vs. a warm bed feels like the realest senior dilemma.
